Google Pixel 9a tipped to get a revamped camera module: Everything else we know

Google Pixel 9a is speculated to debut across the world in the first quarter of 2025. Last week, leaked specs of the upcoming smartphone made a lot of headlines. And now again, a new report shared a noteworthy tip. According to the latest leak, Google might do away with its traditional camera bump with the arrival of the Google Pixel 9a. Sharing the images of what the new phone will look like, critics have said that without a camera bump, it looses its classiness. While the Google Pixel 9a is supposed to be the toned down version of the Google Pixel 9, it still has to look premium. For instance, Pixel 8a looks as classy as Google Pixel 8.
The Pixel series’ iconic camera bar has been its defining design feature, setting it apart from other Android smartphones. However, if the Pixel 9a deviates from this design, it risks losing its distinctiveness. Without the camera bar, the device may blend in with other affordable Android phones, making it harder to differentiate. This design shift could compromise the Pixel’s visual identity and brand recognition. The change may appeal to some, but loyal fans might miss the characteristic camera bar that made Pixel phones instantly recognisable.
The new Pixel model features flat edges and symmetrical bezels, potentially masking its brand identity. Google’s camera bar design, introduced with Pixel 6, has become a defining feature. Dropping it in Pixel 9a would sacrifice the device’s unique identity and undermine the Pixel series’ reputation for exceptional camera performance.
The upcoming Pixel 9a, a budget-friendly option in the Pixel 9 series, may compromise on aesthetics with notably large bezels, potentially diminishing its appeal compared to premium models. However, it boasts impressive software credentials including first phone to launch with Android 15, which is expected October 15 release and seven years of software updates, ensuring long-term security and feature support.
This extended update cycle makes the Pixel 9a an attractive choice for those prioritising longevity and timely software upgrades.
Google’s Pixel 9a may be the last Samsung-processor-powered Pixel, as the company plans to switch to its custom-made processors, manufactured by TSMC, starting with the Pixel 10.
Despite this, the Pixel 9a is poised to be a compelling option if priced competitively. The rumour has it that the devic will sport a 6.1-inch display and packs a larger battery than Pixel 8a. The Google Pixel 9a might be equipped with upto 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, and powered by a Tensor G4 chip upgrade.
